Terre haute probationary officer arrested for air base DUI

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A probationary Terre Haute police officer has been arrested for drunken driving after his vehicle went through the front gate at an Indiana National Air Guard base.

The (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/2afVwzT ) that 24-year-old Joseph R. Brentlinger III was arrested early Friday at Hulman Field. Terre Haute Police Department acting chief Shawn Keen said Friday that he has ordered Brentlinger placed on "immediate relief of duty" and notified the police merit commission to request a hearing on Brentlinger's status.

The newspaper reports Brentlinger's blood alcohol level was .29 percent or about three times the legal limit.

A hearing is scheduled for Brentlinger on Monday morning in Vigo County Superior Court. Brentlinger doesn't have a listed phone number to request comment. He was hired in September.
