Indiana judge faces disciplinary charges over drink driving

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Indiana's Judicial Qualifications Commission has filed disciplinary charges against a Court of Appeals judge after he pleaded guilty to drunk driving.

The commission said in a news release Friday that Court of Appeals Senior Judge William I. Garrard faces two counts of judicial misconduct after he pleaded guilty on June 14, 2016, to misdemeanor operating a vehicle while intoxicated. He has 20 days to respond.

Garrard did not return to a call from The Associated Press.

The state Supreme Court will decide whether judicial misconduct occurred. The charges could be dismissed or Garrard could be fined, reprimanded, suspended or banned from holding judicial office.

According to court records, Garrard was arrested in November 2015 after his car collided with another vehicle in Morristown, about 20 miles southwest of Indianapolis.
