Man arrested after police shooting protest released on bond

CHICAGO (AP) - A man arrested for allegedly striking a Chicago police officer during protests sparked by the fatal police shooting of two black men by police has been released.

Ja'Mal Green is charged with aggravated battery, attempting to disarm a police officer and resisting arrest for his alleged actions during a demonstration Saturday. The 20-year-old was ordered held in lieu of $350,000 bond.

Cook County sheriff's spokeswoman Cara Smith says relatives and Green's supporters collected enough money to pay 10 percent of the bond late Tuesday.

Prosecutors say Green threatened an officer Saturday after being told not to climb a fence during the protest of police shootings of black men in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and near St. Paul, Minnesota. Green allegedly struck a police commander and was accused of grabbing a police captain's duty belt, which held the officer's service revolver.
