Indiana State Police investigate death of prison inmate

GREENCASTLE, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police are investigating the death of a 53-year-old inmate at a western Indiana prison and the Department of Correction says it has identified two primary suspects.

Correction Department spokesman Chris Williams says Lawrence Harris of Indianapolis was found dead about 5:50 a.m. Wednesday after an assault at the Putnamville Correctional Facility in Greencastle, 35 miles west of Indianapolis. He says the two suspects have been isolated from the general prison population.

An autopsy will be conducted. Harris was service a six-year-sentence for burglary. Williams said Harris had been released in May, but was sent to Putnamville because of a parole violation. He was scheduled to be released in April.

Williams says the prison remains on lockdown.
