Evansville delays emergency demolition of 2 buildings

EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - The city of Evansville is delaying emergency demolition of two fire-damaged buildings downtown because of a lack of funds.

The Evansville Courier & Press reports (http://bit.ly/29vz4G2 ) that an engineer's report last month determined both buildings need to be demolished. But the $300,000 cost is more than the Evansville-Vanderburgh Building Commission has left in its demolition budget.

Mayor Lloyd Winnecke's office says it wants to pay for the demolitions using money from the city's riverboat gaming fund. Evansville-Vanderburgh Building Commission Director Ron Beane plans to ask the council for an appropriation from City Council at its next meeting.
