Elk Grove respects its veterans very much

This email is in response to Mr. Jim Skowron's recent letter to Elk Grove Village and Mayor Craig Johnson regarding what he feels is our village's "lack of respect" to our veterans.

Did he attend our annual Memorial Day celebration held at our Park District Pavilion? This event is jointly sponsored by our Village and Park District and hosted by local VFW Post 9284.

Mayor Johnson had the Police Department provide the VFW with ammunition for its Honor Guard and had the Village Engineering Department construct an indoor flag mount which allowed the Honor Guard to raise and lower our National Ensign during the ceremony, all at village expense, and by the way there were at least six beautiful wreaths in display, again provided by our village.

There were over 400 people in attendance.

Did he attend our annual village parade which allowed our VFW Post to host a decorated float where any village veterans and their families, including the Ladies and Men's Auxiliary members were invited to join the ride and hear the positive response by all of the onlookers as it passed in review. I wonder?

I can attest to the fact that Mayor Johnson has been a major supporter of veterans and especially our VFW and American Legion posts throughout his years as our mayor.
