Grayslake history program on tap July 16
In 1895, a small one-room frame school house was moved from a former plank road to downtown Grayslake to become the community's village hall. This story of moving buildings in Grayslake will be shared by Grayslake historian Charlotte Renehan at 10 a.m., Saturday, July 16, at the Grayslake Historical Society program "Grayslake's Moving Stories." The free program, to be held in the Community Room of the Grayslake Heritage Center, 164 Hawley St., Grayslake, is in conjunction with the museum's exhibit "Constructing A Community." A brick veneer plus 10 feet were added to the school house. Today, it houses the Grayslake Municipal History Museum. In the ensuing years, other buildings were moved to Grayslake. A Gages Lake church was moved to Grayslake. Houses on the main street of Grayslake were moved to make room for commercial structures.
