Authorities ID 2 men who drown in Lake Michigan near Gary

GARY, Ind. (AP) - Authorities have identified two Indiana men who drowned after swimming in Lake Michigan while beaches in the Gary area were under a hazard warning.

The Lake County Coroner's Office identified the men as 26-year-old Kyle Reibly and 37-year-old David Alden II, both of Griffith.

The Gary Fire Department received a call about a drowning at the Wells Street Beach, near the eastern edge of Gary, around 2:30 p.m. Saturday.

Officials say the men were among five people pulled from the water. One was in stable condition at a hospital. Two others declined to be taken to hospitals.

The National Weather Service had issued a beach hazards statement for northwest Indiana warning that life-threatening waves and currents were expected.
