LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - A sword that went missing nearly two months ago from a statue that sits atop a fountain outside the Tippecanoe County Courthouse has been recovered.
The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Office says the sword from the Marquis de Lafayette statue that went missing May 11 was found at a Lafayette home. The (Lafayette) Journal & Courier reports (http://on.jconline.com/29syxG7) that the case will be forwarded to the prosecutor's office. The sheriff's department says the sword was not damaged.
The sword, which is bolted in place, also went missing in 2006 and was replaced in 2008.
