Going Greek: Indiana school gets 1st sorority in a decade

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (AP) - A northeastern Indiana college is getting its first sorority in more than a decade.

Alpha Sigma Alpha is set to open a chapter this fall at Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne, giving women on the 12,000-student campus a chance to take part in Greek life.

IPFW spokesman John Kaufeld says the school once had several sororities and fraternities but interest in them eventually waned and the last sorority chapter closed over a decade ago.

The campus has a single fraternity, Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, which Kaufeld says is not a traditional Greek house in that it's devoted to music.

But Kaufeld says new students now "want to bring Greek life back" to IPFW and talks are ongoing to bring other fraternities and sororities to the Fort Wayne campus.
