State police say man fled crash, jumped off 40-foot bridge
GARY, Ind. (AP) - Indiana State Police are investigating why a man attempted to flee the scene of a car crash by jumping off a bridge and falling about 40 feet.
Trooper Brandon Alberts says 32-year-old Jacob Heino of Hobart was headed north on Interstate 65 when his vehicle struck a concreate barrier wall on a bridge about 11:05 p.m. Tuesday. Police say two female passengers in the car stated that Heino fled from the car and jumped off the bridge on the east side of the road.
Police say Heino remained conscious and alert but sustained numerous injuries. He was transported to Northlake Methodist Hospital in Gary for treatment.
