Lafayette to charge $150 for access to body camera footage
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - The Lafayette City Council has authorized charging a $150 fee for access to police body camera or vehicle dashboard camera footage.
WLFI-TV reports (http://bit.ly/29i7w27 ) the City Council voted Tuesday night to amend the city's records to reflect the new fee. The state has authorized the $150 fee. It's part of the new law that gives law enforcement agencies some authority to withhold body camera footage, under certain circumstances.
If a person challenges a decision to withhold video, the law enforcement agency will be required to prove in court that releasing the video would harm someone or influence a court proceeding.
