Elgin-O'Hare tolls start today
Cashless tolling between Lake Street and I-290 on the Elgin-O'Hare Expressway/Route 390 begins this morning, charging drivers 20 cents a mile. The route sees 75,000 cars daily. While tollway executives are counting on drivers to use the road to save time on a route without stoplights, some say they'll boycott the new tolled route. Full story.
Man found dead in Downers Grove pond
Police are continuing to investigate the death of an elderly man whose body was found in a retention pond Monday morning. The DuPage County coroner's office has scheduled an autopsy today while authorities aim to locate and notify the man's family. Full story.
Naperville swimmer heading to second Paralympics
Alyssa Gialamas of Naperville will spend a couple of days at home before devoting the rest of her summer to training to swim four events in the Paralympics beginning Sept. 7 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Gialamas, 21, qualified for the team after a three-day trials meet in North Carolina. Rio will mark her second paralympics as she also competed in three races in the London Paralympics in 2012. Cubs snap losing streak
The Chicago Cubs topped the Cincinnati Reds 10-4 on Monday at Wrigley Field to stop a four-game streak of losses, all to the New York Mets. The win was the 10th time the Cubs have beaten the last-place Reds in 11 chances so far this season. The first-place Cubs improved to 52-30 with the victory. Full story.
