These men make Palatine even better

As a Palatine resident since 1971, I am enjoying your 2016 series of vignettes about Palatine history. But, do you know what, there are a couple of here-and-now stories to tell, also.

They are the "Metra Man", and the "Mayor of Smith Road." The man who has been cleaning and caring for the new Palatine Metra station is amazing. In the winter, the walks are salted. Anytime, inside, you could almost eat off the floors, or perform surgery in a bathroom. He takes very good care of a busy building.

The Mayor of Smith Road is seen walking, at a brisk pace, mornings, heading north. Wearing a shirt and tie, often with a brief case, and always with a plastic bag, he swoops along, picks up any litter in sight, and bags it, from each side of the street.

Both of these men, who are in Palatine, are making our town an even better place.
