Paper let the governor off too easy

Shame on you, Daily Herald! You did lambaste the Democrats and Madigan as they deserve, but went mamby-pamby on the governor, the same governor who created the whole mess after his narrow victory.

It was he whose first act was to let the state income tax go lower in a state who was in financial chaos and in a crisis.

It is a given that the lost income taxes would not have settled the crisis, but his action was a declaration of war on the legislature, unions and to all of the citizens who are not as financially privileged as he and his friends.

He clearly created this whole mess by that one act and you failed to call him it! It was not only completely fiscally irresponsible to do such, but he took that act solely to declare to all that it was to be his way or the highway.

What did you expect the legislature do, cave in and allow him to take away from the underprivileged, the teachers and everyone else so that he could protect the most wealthy from a tax increase?

Your editorial in the last paragraph also presumes that his plans for the state are the course which we should follow, I respectfully disagree.

A state or nation cannot remain strong if we fail to prioritize the education of our children or turn a blind eye to the less fortunate.

Indeed, we need Mike Madigan out as the speaker of the House and for the Democrats to be more responsible, but before that, we need our elitist governor to be out of the office.
