Police: Man intoxicated when truck driven onto tennis courts

LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - Lafayette police say a man was intoxicated when he drove his pickup truck into tennis courts at Jefferson High School, barely missing members of a gym class.

Police say 61-year-old Johnny Burt was arrested for operating while intoxicated on a controlled substance and possession of marijuana. They say he remained hospitalized Tuesday.

Police say Burt's truck left a road about 8:30 a.m. Monday, toppled over a fence and crossed the courts before crashing on the other side.

Two students suffered minor injuries when they were struck by fence debris.

It's not clear whether Burt has an attorney who might comment on his behalf.
