Teen drowns near Waukegan beach

The body of teen boy who drowned while swimming in a boat channel Friday afternoon near the Waukegan Municipal Beach was recovered by the U.S. Coast Guard around 8:45 p.m., Fox 32 news reported.

Waukegan fire and police officials, along with other agencies and the U.S. Coast Guard, said they were searching for a teen boy who went under water in a channel near the Waukegan Municipal Beach around 3:20 p.m. Friday and never resurfaced.

Waukegan Police Cmdr. Joe Florip said the boy was at the beach with his family. The rescue operation became a recovery operation at about 6 p.m.
