High schoolers create artwork for boarded-up homes in Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. (AP) - Peoria High School students have produced artwork for the facades of homes slated for demolition as part of a project to combat blight.

The (Peoria) Journal Star (http://bit.ly/28Ts7NK ) reports that a dozen people on Wednesday morning toured the boarded-up homes owned by the city to see the student artwork.

Students produced a variety of designs and scenes on boards displayed on five abandoned homes as part of the city's Board Up Beautification project. The project, which was inspired by a Milwaukee program, seeks to address the challenges presented by blight and abandonment in some of Peoria's older neighborhoods.

The artwork will be moved to other boarded-up properties when the five homes are demolished later this summer.
