Buffalo Grove, Des Plaines residents scammed

Buffalo Grove and Des Plaines residents report being victimized this month by identical scams, according to police reports.

A Des Plaines man was scammed out of $600 between 2 and 5 p.m. June 2 after he received a phone call from someone claiming to be from the IRS. The victim was told there was a warrant for his arrest if he did not pay $600 to settle an issue. The resident purchased two iTunes gift cards, one for $500 and one for $100, and gave the card numbers to the caller.

A Buffalo Grove man was scammed out of $700 around 2:26 p.m. June 8. A man called his cellphone and told the victim he was from the IRS and he would be arrested if he did not pay immediately. He was instructed to purchase iTunes gift cards. The victim gave the card numbers to the scammer.
