Markets Right Now: US stocks move lower

NEW YORK (AP) - The latest on developments in global financial markets (all times local):

11:45 a.m.

U.S. stocks moved lower in midday trading on Wall Street, erasing all of the previous day's gains.

Investors were continuing to monitor Friday Britain's frenzied debate on whether to leave the European Union. Britons go to the polls next Thursday.

Technology stocks had some of the biggest losses. Google parent Alphabet slumped 3 percent.

The price of oil turned higher, helping lift energy stocks. U.S. crude gained almost 3 percent to $47 a barrel in New York.

The Dow Jones industrial average gave up 100 points, or 0.6 percent, to 17,632. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 12 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,065. The Nasdaq composite dropped 45 points, or 0.9 percent, to 4,799.

Bond prices fell. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.61 percent.

Stocks are opening slightly lower on Wall Street, with the biggest losses coming in technology and health care companies.

Apple fell 1.6 percent and drugmaker Merck lost 1.3 percent shortly after the opening bell on Friday.

The price of oil turned higher, helping lift energy stocks. U.S. crude gained 2 percent to $47 a barrel in New York.

The Dow Jones industrial average gave up 46 points, or 0.3 percent, to 17,698. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 6 points, or 0.3 percent, to 2,071. The Nasdaq composite dropped 27 points, or 0.6 percent, to 4,817.

Bond prices fell slightly. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note rose to 1.59 percent.
