Tree branch falls on campground tent, kills Indiana boy, 10

MONTICELLO, Ind. (AP) - Northwestern Indiana authorities say a 10-year-old boy camping with his family died after a tree branch fell onto their tent at the Indiana Beach amusement park.

The White County Sheriff's Office says the Mishawaka boy died Tuesday morning after the incident at Indiana Beach's campgrounds along Lake Shafer about 30 miles north of Lafayette.

Officers summoned to the campground about 8:30 a.m. found the branch had fallen from a tree and landed on the family's tent, striking the boy.

Indiana Beach security officers began CPR on the boy, who was not breathing when emergency medical responders arrived.

The child was pronounced dead at a Monticello hospital. His name was not immediately released by police.
