Chicago police increase security after Florida shooting

CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel says the city won't be intimidated after a shooting inside a Florida gay nightclub left at least 50 people dead.

Emanuel says in a Sunday statement that he looks forward to celebrating the city's Pride Parade on June 26. There'll also be festivities next weekend.

Chicago police are increasing security, particularly in neighborhoods with gay bars and establishments. Police leaders say they're stepping up police presence "out of an abundance of caution," and not because of any information regarding any threat in Chicago.

Chicago gay rights activists plan a Sunday evening vigil. Illinois Gov. Bruce Rauner has called for flags to be flown at half-staff.

At Touche, a Chicago gay bar, bartender Matthew Hermann says he expects attendees of the Pride Parade to be more cautious.
