Illinois sheriff's office gets new high-tech K-9 vehicle

LACON, Ill. (AP) - An Illinois sheriff's office has a new, high-tech K-9 vehicle thanks to a grant from a private organization.

The Peoria Journal-Star reports (http://bit.ly/1Xg8G4w ) the Marshall County Sheriff's Office recently received the nearly $63,000 2016 Chevrolet Tahoe.

It has a kennel where the backseat would typically be. That's where Flits the German shepherd rides when he's on patrol with his handler, Deputy Bob Vester.

Vester says his K-9 partner likes the vehicle because there's "quite a bit of room in there."

The Tahoe has special features such as a door that can be opened with remote access to release the dog if the deputy is being attacked or threatened.

It also has sensors to immediately adjust the temperature if it gets too hot or cold inside.
