Library plan impact on taxes overlooked

The reporter who reported the story on the Fox Valley Library tax hike proposal misses a significant fact that could have caused an attention gathering headline for the story: Fox Valley Library to consider hike which would make it the highest cost library in all of Kane County.

Current tax rate: 0.209 plus their proposed 0.360 increase. New rate would be 0.569. Next highest in Kane County: Gail Borden, Elgin rate 0.529.

The rate increase, standing alone is 20 percent higher than the average tax rates assessed by all other Kane County libraries. Now, that should be a story worth printing.
