Glen Ellyn Library aids Habitat homeowner

The Glen Ellyn Public Library is asking the community to join in a Read to Build program to help Habitat for Humanity provide a family in need with new appliances.

The library is challenging kids to read for 70,000 hours and adults to read 4,500 books. When the community meets these goals, the Friends of the Library and the Glen Ellyn Public Library Foundation will each donate funds to DuPage Habitat for Humanity to purchase new appliances for a homeowner.

This marks the fourth year the library has tied summer reading to a philanthropic cause, embracing the volunteer spirit of the community.

"Knowing that by meeting a set goal they will be helping someone in the community provides that extra bit of motivation to read," said Dawn Bussey, Glen Ellyn Public Library director. "People are always excited to learn who their reading will support this year."

Read to Build runs through Monday, Aug. 8. In addition to supporting a worthy cause, the library offers registration and participation prizes for readers of all ages. Sign up to participate in summer reading, and learn more about the prizes offered, by visiting gepl.org/read-to-build.
