Expect traffic delays for Batavia Sprint Distance Triathlon

The 2016 Batavia Sprint Distance Triathlon comes back to town Sunday, June 12. There will be a number of temporary road blocks and traffic interruptions throughout the westside of the City of Batavia, including the intersections of: Route 31/First Street, First Street/South Van Nortwick Avenue, West Wilson Street/Van Nortwick Avenue, Wilson Street/Randall Road, Wilson Street/Deerpath Road, Deerpath Road/Main Street and continue westbound Main Street to Bliss Road out of the city limits.

The event begins at 6:30 a.m. and will end at approximately 10 a.m. It will include a swim, 14-mile bike ride and 4-mile run. To the extent possible, this is an "open road" event, and participants have been instructed accordingly.

Motorists, please use caution and be prepared to encounter increased bicycle traffic on the following streets during the hours of 6:30-9:00 am, S. Batavia Avenue/First Street, West Wilson Street, Main Street, Bliss Road, Seavey Rd and Nelson Lake Road.

Also, please be prepared to encounter increased pedestrian/bicycle traffic. Each of the road/intersections will be staffed by public safety employees/race volunteers and vehicular traffic will be allowed to pass whenever it is safe to do so. The event will end with runners finishing their run portion of the race on the Fox River Trail system at the Batavia VFW, 645 S. River St.
