Italy beats Finland 2-0 in final warmup before Euros

VERONA, Italy (AP) - Italy again dominated as it beat Finland 2-0 at Stadio Bentegodi in Verona on Monday, in its final warmup for the European Championship.

Antonio Candreva won and converted a penalty in the first half, coolly side-footing into the bottom right corner after being tripped by Perparim Hetemaj, who plays club football at the same stadium.

Candreva also set up Italy's second goal, with a cross which substitute Daniele De Rossi headed into the bottom right corner in the 71st minute.

De Rossi had been on the pitch for only seven minutes and had already provided an opportunity for Stephan El Shaarawy. The midfielder replaced Thiago Motta, who was booed off the pitch.

It was De Rossi's 18th goal for his country, the most in the current squad.

"We must try to improve more, in the tempo, in intensity, in tactical situations," Italy coach Antonio Conte said.

"One thing I can say for sure: This is a group of lads who are all great men first and then really good footballers. That's important because in such short tournaments they have to be happy among each other ... I hope the pitch can give us some joy, not so much for me but more for the lads, who are working so hard."

Just as in its previous friendly against Scotland, Italy's opponent did not have a shot on goal in the first half. The Azzurri had 12 opportunities before the interval.

The Azzurri did not face a single shot on target in both games.

Italy is in one of the toughest groups at Euro 2016. It opens against Belgium on June 13, followed by Sweden and Ireland.

Conte is leaving after the tournament to manage Chelsea, and his successor - widely expected to be Giampiero Ventura - will be announced on Tuesday.
