Shelter, Inc. to host 12th annual golf outing

Shelter, Inc.'s 12th annual Michael Portelli Memorial Golf Outing will be from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday, June 15, at Makray Memorial Golf Club in Barrington.

Cost is $1,500 for a foursome; $400 for a single golfer. The cost includes 18 holes of golf, lunch, green fees, cart, locker room facilities, prizes and raffle drawings, and dinner and open bar with evening hosts Chet Coppock, Emmy award-winning radio broadcaster, television and sports personality, and author and Chicago Bear legend Ronnie Bull.

All funds raised through this event will be used to support Shelter's programs and services. Because of the impasse with the Illinois State budget, the funds raised during this outing are more important than ever. Shelter has not received funding for its Healthy Families Program from the Department of Human Services since last June.

Shelter, Inc. is a nonprofit child welfare agency that protects abused and neglected children and adolescents by providing foster care, emergency and longer-term group home services in a safe and caring environment.

The Healthy Families Program provides home visits to first-time parents, emphasizing children's well-being and positive parenting. Increased public awareness concerning child abuse, neglect and other social problems directly impacting children and their families is accomplished through the Community Education Program.
