Nothing but praise for middle schools

Middle schools often get a bad rap. As our experience with these institutions comes to an end, we wanted to offer a different perspective.

If I had to pick one word to describe St. Petronille Middle School in Glen Ellyn it would be "welcoming." From the students to the staff, coaches and parents, our son could not have felt more at home, despite being an "outsider." We will forever remember that kindness.

Glen Crest Middle School boasts "community." When our son had surgery earlier this year, the principal, vice principal, counselor and nurse expressed awareness and compassion, the teachers pitched in with assignments and encouragement, the amazing library team helped him study and keep spirits bright, and he never even had to ask for a classmate to carry books, open doors or escort him in the hallways. Incredible.

These are good places. It takes a village. We are grateful.
