Officials survey damage in Wayne County after powerful storm

RICHMOND, Ind. (AP) - The National Weather Service says a tornado touched down in Wayne County when a weekend storm passed over the eastern part of Indiana.

The weather service's Wilmington, Ohio, office said Sunday that a tornado with wind speeds of up to 85 mph cut a 1ˆ¼ mile path Saturday near Richmond, Indiana. No one was injured by the EF0 tornado, which is the weakest tornado designation the weather service assigns to a tornado. The Richmond Palladium-Item reports (http://pinews.co/25Hl8PL ) the storm downed trees and tore a roof from a barn.

The weather service and the Wayne County Emergency Management Agency launched a damage assessment on Saturday to see if a tornado had in fact touched down.
