In June, Local Causes Get Boost From Haircuts at Sport Clips Lake Bluff
With summer on the horizon, the time has come for warm-weather haircuts and that figures to bring in boys and men to the athletic-themed Sport Clips Haircuts location in Lake Bluff.
Although that represents a welcome business development for owner Frank Schnitzler, what he's more excited about is what it will mean for three area organizations that serve a variety of people in need. A portion of sales will support their efforts, which will also be bolstered by Sport Clips employees who volunteer at those groups' upcoming events.
The activity is all part of Schnitzler's vision to channel profits from the business to endeavors that help those in need. In August 2015, the Third Lake resident opened the store in Lake Bluff, which is one of over 100 Sport Clips franchises in Illinois and 1,500 across the nation.
He did so after a life-changing 2014 missionary trip to Kenya, where he took his teen-aged daughter. That led to his developing a passion for Oasis for Orphans, a Wheaton-based not-for-profit that cares for 200 orphans in care centers in rural southwest Kenya with hopes of rescuing even more.
His commitment encompasses the local community as well.
From June 8-12, shop employees will volunteer to help athletes in their quest to qualify for the U.S. Paralympic Trials at Lake Forest High School.
The events have been organized by the Great Lakes Adaptive Sports Association (GLASA), online at www.glasa.org, and volunteers serve in a variety of ways, such as offering support to competitors in track and field events and helping host a breakfast in the athletes' honor.
GLASA's mission is to promote and support the optimal development and well-being of youth, adults and military veterans who have a physical or visual disability.
"I have seen in my own children how competing in sports benefited them in developing self-confidence and in making friends," said Schnitzler. "I love that GLASA extends that opportunity to so many kids and adults."
As the GLASA support wraps up, the business will begin its support of Mothers Trust Foundation, which has cared for Lake County children in crisis since 1998. From June 11-19, Sport Clips Lake Bluff will donate a portion of proceeds from haircuts to the organization.
In addition, employees will volunteer at "Keeping Kids Out of the Rough," a Friday, June 17th golf tournament fundraiser at Lake Bluff Golf Course.

On Saturday, June 18th, employees will volunteer at and participate in the Equestrian Connection Team Fun Run, part of that organization's Trail Challenge.
The following week, from June 19-26, a portion of the proceeds from haircuts at Sport Clips Lake Bluff will go to Equestrian Connection, a Lake Forest-area not-for-profit that supports people with special needs by connecting them with horses, therapists and one another.
