A Cristian Martinez header three minutes into stoppage time closed the gap to one goal.

Liam Ridgewell scored early for Portland, who were reduced to 10 men when Dairon Asprilla was red carded before the break. The Timbers held on to end San Jose's three game unbeaten streak.

Seattle ended a three-game losing streak, with Jordan Morris and Joevin Jones scoring four minutes apart late in the second half.
