MainStreet Libertyville's annual Home Tour set for June 4
MainStreet Libertyville will host its 13th annual Home Tour Saturday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
"Bridging the Architecture of the Past with the Present and Future" is the theme for this year's tour. The tour builds on last year's focus on the past and present characteristics in local architecture by adding the future.
The homeowners look forward to welcoming you to share stories and histories, while experiencing the unique characteristics and architectural details of their houses and gardens.
The past will feature a farmhouse-style home built in 1925, and a 1930s saltbox, barn and ice house on the property formerly operated as the Quaker Oats Research Farm and the "Man on the Farm" WGN radio show.
Additionally, the David Adler Music & Arts Center will be open for tours. In 1999, the center was recognized by the National Register of Historic Places. While David Adler built several structures on the property in the 1900s, the original farmhouse, still in use, was constructed in 1864.
The center's "Houses of Milwaukee Avenue" exhibit will also be on display through photographs from the Libertyille-Mundelein Historical Society's collection of past and present homes gracing Libertyville's main streets.
Representing the present is a house built in 2012, in which three floors and the garden will be open.
From the future, a Wexler/Kollman Architecture "LEED Certified" duplex home, just completed, will also be featured. "LEED" is the acronym for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. Learn the benefits on the tour.
The tour booklet and wristband can be ordered online at mainstreetlibertyville.org, or at the MainStreet Office, 158 Cook St., for $15 per person in advance and $20 each on the event day.
Volunteers will be in Cook Park June 4, beginning at 9 a.m. to distribute booklets and wristbands for pick up or purchase.
Event sponsors are Allstate Insurance, Coldwell Banker Real Estate, JB Brickworks, Martin John Landscaping, Townee Square Restaurant and Knauz.
