Indianapolis man pleads guilty to church van crash charges

INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis man has been sentenced to 20 years after pleading guilty to charges in connection with a 2013 church van crash that killed the van's driver and injured several passengers.

Brandon Collins pleaded guilty Tuesday to not stopping after an accident with serious bodily injury while intoxicated and operating a vehicle with a blood-alcohol content of 0.15 or greater causing death. Collins' blood-alcohol level was 0.20.

Nine years of the sentence are to be served in prison, five years on home detention with alcohol monitoring, and six years on probation. His driver's license will be suspended for five years after he's released from prison

Prosecutors say Collins drove through a red light in November 2013, striking a 15-passenger church van transporting children. The van's driver, Edward Sadler, died.
