Chesney to headline concert at Bristol Motor Speedway

BRISTOL, Tenn. (AP) - Country star Kenny Chesney will headline a concert at Bristol Motor Speedway on Sept. 9, the night before the speedway hosts a football game between Tennessee and Virginia Tech.

The concert, billed as "Bristol's Tailgate Party," was announced at a Tuesday news conference. The concert also will feature The Band Perry and Old Dominion.

Tennessee and Virginia Tech are facing each other Sept. 10 at the speedway. Promoters expect the matchup to draw the highest single-game attendance in NCAA football history.

Chesney graduated from East Tennessee State in nearby Johnson City, Tennessee. He said Tuesday in a statement that "I had a lot of dreams then, but never did I dream I would be playing at Bristol Motor Speedway. The idea of that was too big to dream."
