Bike rodeo to highlight Sunday Farmers Market at Depot June 5

On Sunday, June 5, novice bike riders will receive hands-on training in bike safety during the bike rodeo from 10 a.m. to noon, held during the Depot's Sunday Farmers Market on River Street in East Dundee.

Kids, age 4 to 8, are invited to bring their bikes and make their way through a parent-guided, five-station circuit where they will have their bicycle and helmet checked, and learn about scanning techniques, traffic signs and the proper way to cross a street.

The free kids-only event is being offered in conjunction with the Sunday Farmers Market that features farm-to-fork produce and products from local farmers and businesses. The market showcases locally produced vegetables; organic chickens and eggs; fresh baked pastries; artist-inspired photography; organic coffee and handmade natural soaps. Duke's BBQ and Ruthella's New Orleans Cuisine will also be on hand to add to the fun.

"Our market is the perfect reason for families to come visit our newly refreshed Depot and its surrounding grounds in the middle of East Dundee's growing downtown district," said village President Lael Miller. "Residents can enjoy some time visiting with their neighbors while they shop for healthy, good-for-you groceries."

The Bike Rodeo June 5 is just one of many activities highlighting the Farmers Market open Sundays through September. For the month of June activities include the annual "Donuts for Dad 5K Race" on June 12; "Make a Craft with Your Dad" and a historical walk with local author and historian Phil Aleo on Father's Day, June 19; and "Stuff Your Own Cuddly Dog Craft" plus the Kimberly Lyrics Student Recital and a Pet Adoption Day on June 26.
