Indiana county see several cases of whooping cough
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) - The health department in a rural northwest Indiana county says it has confirmed several cases of whooping cough.
The Carroll County Health Department told the Lafayette Journal & Courier (http://on.jconline.com/1sT9NuT ) on Friday that two adults and an infant have the illness. The infant has been hospitalized and the adults work at a local courthouse.
At least two more people also may have the illness.
Whooping cough is a highly contagious respiratory illness characterized by fever, coughing and other symptoms. Many who have the illness also develop pneumonia.
Carroll County is just northeast of the Lafayette area.
