Girl critically hurt after being hit by truck in Gages Lake

A 12-year-old girl was hit by a pickup truck and seriously injured in Gages Lake Friday afternoon, authorities said.

The girl was walking south, crossing Gages Lake Road at Almond Road, when she was hit by a Chevrolet truck headed east on Gages Lake because the driver was unable to avoid her, according to the Lake County sheriff's office. Deputies were called to the scene about 2:40 p.m.

According to witnesses, the traffic light was green for traffic on Gages Lake Road.

The girl was first taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville then flown to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn with critical injuries.

The Lake County Sheriff's Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit is investigating.
