GOP board member blocks Indiana State campus voting site

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. (AP) - A Republican county election board member has blocked a proposed voting center on the Indiana State University campus.

The Vigo County Election Board voted 2-1 this week in favor of the plan, with support from two Democratic members. But state law requires a unanimous vote to add a vote center.

The (Terre Haute) Tribune-Star reports (http://bit.ly/22o0aA4 ) that university officials requested the vote center and offered at least $10,000 toward needed equipment at the site that would be open to all county voters.

Republican board member Kara Anderson said additional voting machines could cost about $44,000 and that supporters were "shooting from the hip" without a funding commitment from the county council.

Former Vigo County judge John Kite says Anderson is supporting her party and trying to suppress voting.
