Softball: Buck, Radke power Grayslake Central's win
Trinity Buck hit a solo home run, and Reagen Radke earned the complete-game win, as Grayslake Central's softball team edged visiting McHenry 3-2 in Fox Valley Conference action on Wednesday.
Brooke Heraty drew 3 walks and scored a run for the Rams, who got outhit 6-4. Radke struck out seven and walked one.
Antioch 5, Lake Forest 0: Freshman Avery Malicki hit her first varsity home run, a solo shot in her only plate appearance, as the host Sequoits captured the North Suburban crossover.
Stephanie Bonaguidi (4⅓ innings, 3 strikeouts, 1 walk) and Hannah Cook (2⅔ innings, 2 strikeouts) combined for the shutout. Annie Wagner was 2-for-3 with 2 doubles and an RBI for Antioch (22-11), and Callie Tubbs had a double, 2 runs scored and 2 stolen bases.
Mundelein 19, Round Lake 0: Breanna Adams went 4-for-4 with a homer, 2 doubles and 4 RBI, as the visiting Mustangs cruised in the North Suburban crossover.
Molly Pedroza was 4-for-4 with 2 doubles as well for Mundelein (10-21). The Mustangs received 3 hits apiece from Amanda Diaz (double, triple, 2 RBI), Jordyn West (2 doubles, 3 RBI), Karlee Busscher (double) and Peyton Pribyl (2 RBI). Contributing 2 hits apiece were Victoria Avis, Allison Lambert (double) and Heather Avis (2 doubles).
Round Lake's only hits came from Brianna Negrette, Katie Bleim and Taylor Hay.
Warren 7, Grant 1: The visiting Blue Devils received 2 hits apiece from Claire Swedberg (double, triple, RBI), Crystal Pennell (double) and Caitlyn Britton (double). Sabrina Trevino and Becca Geiger had doubles as well.
Winning-pitcher Sage Staranowicz struck out 11 and walked four in a complete-game effort.
Grant (18-14) got 2 hits apiece from Hannah McCall, Erin Bengston and Becca Wold.
Zion-Benton 3, Vernon Hills 2: The Zee-Bees scored the winning run in the top of the eighth inning of the North Suburban crossover.
Delaney Bowen was 2-for-2 with 2 walks and a double for the Cougars, who had only 3 hits.
Carmel 12, St. Viator 2: Emma Bartz homered for the visiting Corsairs, who improved to 20-10 and 7-5 in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
Claire Petrus earned the win and also doubled.
