Grayslake course to host Rust-Oleum Championship qualifier
Already a host of prestigious tournament qualifying events including final stage site for the 2009 U.S. Open, Stonewall Orchard Golf Club in Grayslake will host Monday qualifying on June 6 for the Rust-Oleum Championship, held later that week at the nearby Ivanhoe Club.
The June 6 medalist will advance to play in the Rust-Oleum event, a stop on the Web.com Tour, made up of players who are trying to play their way onto the PGA Tour. Each year, 50 PGA Tour cards are made available to players from the Web.com Tour - 25 during the regular season and 25 at the four-event Web.com Tour Finals.
Named one of the best public courses in Illinois this year by Golfweek Magazine, the Arthur Hills-designed Stonewall Orchard is on rotation with Medinah and Olympia Fields Country Clubs as host of the Illinois PGA Section Championship. The course is 10 minutes from The Ivanhoe Club.
"We're honored to be selected as qualifying site for the Rust-Oleum Championship," said Stonewall Orchard director of golf Jeff Pajula. "Someone's dream will come true that day as they advance to play with some of the top players in the world."
The Web.com Tour had a stop in the Chicago area from 2002-08, with LaSalle Bank and Bank of America serving as title sponsor. The most famous winner during that stretch was Jason Dufner in 2007, who went on to make the PGA Tour and win the 2013 PGA Championship.
While Pajula does expected to see a lot of foot traffic from the public on June 6, he did note that area enthusiasts are invited to come check out the action that day. Stonewall Orchard is on Route 60, one-half mile west of Rand Road, and one mile east of Fairfield Road. The golf shop can be reached at (847) 740-4890.
