Baseball: Maine West, St. Viator pick up wins

Maine West 5, Prospect 4: The visiting Knights jumped ahead 4-2 after scoring twice in the top of the seventh inning, only to see the Warriors rally for 3 runs and a nonconference victory in the bottom half.

The key hit in Maine West's last at-bat was a 2-run single from Sean Russell.

Matt Johnston earned a victory with 1 inning's worth of scoreless relief for Maine West (13-14).

Grant Whitebloom had a hit, 2 stolen bases and 3 runs scored for Prospect (18-9).

St. Viator 8, St. Patrick 3: The host Lions put together a complete effort in earning an East Suburban Catholic Conference triumph.

Sean McAteer got the win in relief, but starter Shaun Falbo and relievers Bryce Hellgeth and Jack Heneghan also pitched well as St. Viator (16-15) committed just 1 error.

Brett DeSelm had a 2-run single along with a double, finishing 2-for-4 with 3 RBI. Brad McCullough also had 2 hits, and Joe Sarnello contributed a double for the Lions.
