Indianapolis chiropractor guilty in weight-loss drug case
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - An Indianapolis chiropractor has pleaded guilty to illegally dispensing weight loss drugs.
Federal prosecutors said Tuesday that Pynkerton Newton pleaded guilty to possession and dealing of phentermine, which is a controlled substance commonly used for weight loss. In Indiana chiropractors cannot administer or prescribe controlled substances.
Prosecutors say Newton offered a weight loss program at his chiropractic office and provided the drug. Officials accuse him of using a former medical colleague's personal information to buy the drug.
Newton served 10 days in the Marion County jail after he arrested. He was given no additional time.
