Oakton art exhibition features works by Chicago imagist
"Paul Lamantia: Under the Skin of the Subconscious" runs through June 30, at the Koehnline Museum of Art at Oakton Community College's Des Plaines campus, 1600 E. Golf Road.
The exhibition, the first in-depth examination of Lamantia's work, features comic-inspired paintings and drawings that emphasize fantastic sensual personages and deal with subjects that are at the very core of human feelings and moral behavior. Lamantia's art often features circuslike sideshow creatures that float in and out of shifting spaces, meandering through psychic spills, filling the entire frame with stunning imagery.
Hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday. For information, call (847) 635-2633, or visit www.oakton.edu/museum.
