Bloomington nursery specializes in plants native to Indiana

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (AP) - A Bloomington business has opened what its owners say is southern Indiana's first nursery that exclusively sells plants and trees native to the state.

Eco Logic already specialized in restoring lands to a more natural state, but it began selling native plants and trees to customers Saturday.

The nursery has more than 100 species of native plants. One of those is the royal catchfly, which produces red flowers that are only pollinated by ruby-throated hummingbirds.

Nursery manager Natalie Marinova tells The Herald-Times (http://bit.ly/1TT70Kk ) Indiana has a few wholesalers of native plants but Eco Logic "wanted to get the native plants out there for homeowners."

Company workers hope that when someone buys their native plants or trees their seeds will eventually spread those species to both public and private lands.
