Eliminate seniority's role in legislature
The writer from Buffalo Grove had the right idea to eliminate the de facto kingdom that exists in the term limitless reign of Madigan in our state legislature. However, I am afraid that this is futile and even if successful would be like throwing the baby out with the bath water, and causing the loss of some honestly talented people on both sides of the aisle.
For me, a more effective measure would be to eliminate the role of seniority in determining key posts in the two divisions of the legislature and fill all of these position by lottery. This would seriously limit the bargaining power of the king and might make him and his serfs more flexible. Since the voters in his district are incapable of distinguishing right from wrong or truth from fiction, let him stay but put a stranglehold on his ability to shape the legislature to his desire. Maybe then we can get to the real tasks ahead, a budget, redistricting reform and transparent constitutional reform.
