Boys water polo: Balance sends Stevenson back to state

A balanced scoring effort helped Stevenson's boys water polo team earn a spot in the state touranment quarterfinals.

The top-seeded Patriots got 5 goals apiece from Andrew Shashin, Christiano Tomasetti and Dan Maleski to come up with a 20-12 victory over No. 2 seed Mundelein in the Buffalo Grove sectional championship game on Saturday.

Mundelein (24-9) got 3 goals each from Mike Ward and Matt Schaedel.

Stevenson (26-6) next faces a matchup with defending state champ Lyons at 5:45 p.m. Thursday. Lyons earned its spot in the Elite Eight by topping Brother Rice 14-7.
