Boys track and field: Burlington Central wins 6th straight BNC title

Burlington Central's boys track team had seven first-place finishes and two relay team champions to claim its sixth straight Big Northern Conference championship under coach Mike Schmidt late Thursday night at Richmond-Burton.

In the Rockets' final year in the BNC, they scored 148 points to far outdistance second place Rockford Christian (110) and third place Richmond (80).

Senior Nick Harvey won both the 800 and 1,600 meters for BC, while senior Jason Berango was also a double winner, claiming the 100 and 200-meter dashes.

Also placing first for the Rockets were Dionte Smith in the triple jump and Jared Trupp in the pole vault.

Central's 400 relay team of Tim Goehrke, Smith, Berango and Brad Sorensen took first place as did the all-freshman 3,200 relay team of Enrique Martinez, Cody Schrock, Adam Kries and Logan Anderson.

The Rockets will compete in the Class 2A Galena sectional next week.
