Girls track and field: Jacobs' Walsh qualifies for state
Kaleigh Walsh was relieved.
Riley Seagren was ecstatic.
There were plenty of emotions surrounding the 3A Huntley girls sectional track meet.
Walsh, from Jacobs, repeated as a state qualifier in the long jump with a leap of 17 9 3/4.
"There was a lot of pressure on me to do well and make it downstate again," said Walsh, "I am just relieved. I will enjoy the state meet."
Seagren, a freshman from Hampshire, qualified for the high jump with a leap of 5-3.
"It was a personal best and I am just so happy," said Seagren. "I have been thinking all year I could get the state meet qualifying jump."
Seagren will be joined at the state meet in the high jump by Grace Daun of Wauconda, who won the event with a jump of 5-7. Huntley's McKenzie Krich qualified with a jump of 5-3.
Crystal Lake South's Caitlin Bruzzini won the 3,200 in a time of 11:19.14
"I just ran a good strategy race," said Bruzzini. "Everything worked out."
Hampshire's 3,200 relay qualified by finishing second with a time of 9:35.89. The Whip-Purs' foursome consisted of Marie Mayer, Elizabeth Evans, Morgan Richert and Sophia Oury.
Huntley's Sarah Henderson was fifth in the discus.
