Softball: Radtke reaches strikeout milestone in Grayslake Central victory
Reagen Radtke got strikeout No. 200 of the season with her first strikeout of the game, setting the tone for a dominant performance as Grayslake Central's softball team edged Prairie Ridge 1-0 on Wednesday in Fox Valley Conference Fox Division play.
Radtke (14-8) finished with 13 strikeouts as the Rams improved to 16-11 overall and 9-1 in conference play (tie for first).
Both teams finished with 2 hits and 1 error. Radke scored Grayslake Central's run in the fourth inning on a single by Trinity Buck. Morgan Smigielski had the Rams' other hit.
Hailey Baker suffered the loss.
Wauconda 7, Vernon Hills 0: Kayla Wedl fanned 13 without allowing a walk to help the Bulldogs improved to 8-1 in North Suburban Prairie play.
Wedl improved to 11-2 after yielding 2 hits.
Sisters Taylor and Alyssa McCarthy both had 2 hits and scored twice for Wauconda (18-6 overall), and Kayla Serio and Mallory Carved both had doubles.
Nicole Pieper was 2-for-3 for Vernon Hills, which slipped to 5-6 in the Prairie.
Libertyville 4, Zion-Benton 0: On senior day for the Wildcats, senior Jessie Lauret went 3-for-3 as Libertyville improved to 21-7 overall.
Hannah Heraty earned the pitching decision with a complete game. She allowed 4 hits with 3 walks and 4 strikeouts. Franny Quenan drove in 2 runs for the Wildcats, who also honored senior Jamie Stevens.
Carmel 8, Marian Central 3: Amanda Elert was 3-for-4 with a home run for the visiting Corsairs in their East Suburban Catholic Conference win.
Carmel (17-7, 4-2) got 2-for-3 efforts from Emma Bartz, winning-pitcher Claire Petrus and Jordan Swiatkowski.
Lake Zurich 5, Mundelein 2: Amanda Guercio (2-for-4) and Jessica Puccinelli (2-for-3, 2 RBI) both homered for the Bears in the North Suburban Lake game.
Mackenzie Brinn was 2-for-4 and Abby Jokerst doubled for Lake Zurich (5-5 NSC Lake), while Stephanie Keefe earned the complete-game win.
Mundelein (1-9 NSC Lake) got a homer and 2 RBI from Allison Lambert. Jordyn West was 3-for-3 with a double. Lambert, Breanna Adams and Payton Pribyl (double) finished with 2 hits apiece for the Mustangs.
Grant 4, Antioch 3: Calista Warmowski and Erin Bengston homered for the Bulldogs in the North Suburban Prairie game.
Warmowski (3 runs) and Kenzi Sancken both were 2-for-4 for Grant (7-2 NSC Prairie). Bengston was 2-for-3 and doubled as well. Hanna McCall went the distance in the circle, allowing no earned runs, striking out four and walking none.
Antioch (7-2 NSC Prairie) got doubles from Jil Foote and Ashley Stephens. Katie Sorenson and Meg Lawrence were both 2-for-3.
